In the previous article we examined the first of the signs that anticipate, according to the apostle Paul, the coming in the glory of the Messiah, that is, the apostasy (WHO). The other sign is the revelation of the “iniquitous man”, literally, of the man of “anomia”, that is, the lawless, also called the “son of perdition”.
Let’s start from the second letter of Paul to the Thessalonians, in the translation by Giovanna Cheli: 
Because if the apostasy does not come first and it is not revealed the man of iniquity, the son of perdition, 4that yes contrasts and that he rises above all that is called God or object of worship, to the point of settling himself in the temple of God, showing himself as if he were God. . . 5Do you not remember that being still with you I was telling you these things? 6And now you know what holds it back from being revealed in due time. 7In fact, the mystery of iniquity is already at work; only that whoever has been holding him up to now is removed from the vehicle. . . 8so the lawless will be revealed, which the Lord Jesus will destroy with the breath of his mouth and annihilate with the manifestation of his coming, 9whose coming is according to the strength of satan with all power and signs and wonders of lies 10and with every seduction of injustice for those who are lost, because they did not accept the love of truth to be saved. 11 And for this God sends them one force of deception so that they believe the lie, 12so that all those who did not believe in the truth be judged, taking pleasure in injustice instead. (2Ts 2, 3-12)
TYPE AND ANTITYPE
In Sacred Scripture there are figures (types) that herald others (antitypes). The type (tupos) is the prophetic prefiguration of a reality that will manifest itself in the future. Literally, tupos it means calco, copy, figure, of which the original is said antitipo (antitupes), stand-in, that is, the model from which the copy is taken. In the Pauline letters, some characters, episodes and rites of the Old Testament are described as the shadow of a body, that is, projections in the antiquity of the ultimate realities: “These things are the shadow of those that are to come, while the body (reality ) is Christ’s “(Col 2.17); “Now all these things happened to them like figure (dead end) and were written for our admonition, of us for whom the end times have come “(1Cor 10.11). For this reason, the antichrists that have followed one another in history constitute prefigurations (types) of the last antichrist (antitype), the one who opposes Christ reaching the maximum impiety. This means that the characteristics of the former can be found in the latter and the biblical passages, which describe these characters from the past, can also concern the last antichrist. This is why the Apostle, describing the last antichrist, refers to the figure of Antiochus IV Epiphanes, who made himself god and profaned the Temple, consecrating it to Jupiter.
Paolo with a few strokes outlines a perfect identikit. He calls him “man of anomie”, which we could translate as “the lawless” or, better, the negation of the law par excellence, that is, of the law of God, that law that asks us to love God with all our hearts, our soul and our mind, and our neighbor as ourselves. But if the highest form of love is the saving Truth, then the lawless will try to drown the Truth in opinion, and since he comes with the “strength of satan”, he will be like his father, who was “a murderer from principle and did not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks of his own, because he is a liar and the father of lies “(Gv 8.44). With his falsity, the last antichrist will kill many souls.
The other title “son of perdition” is very significant. The Greek noun apoleia It means perdition, destruction, from which it derives Apollyon, the destroyer, which responds to Hebrew ‘Abadon, terms that we find in chap. 9 of the Apocalypse: “Their king was the angel of the Abyss, which in Hebrew is called Perdition (‘abadon), in Greek exterminator (Apollyon). To unleash the abyss on earth, according to the seer of Patmos, is a “star fallen from heaven to earth”, who was given “the key to the well of the Abyss”, with which he opened “the well of the Abyss” and from this “a smoke rose like the smoke of a great furnace, which obscured the sun and the atmosphere” (Ap 9.1-2). What is meant by a star fallen from the sky? In the scroll of the prophet Isaiah, regarding the fall of the king of Babylon, prefiguration of the antichrist, we read:
How come you fell from the sky, star of the morning, son of the dawn? How come you were brought down to the ground, you who defeated / killed the people? You said in your heart: “I will ascend into the heavens, upon the stars of God I will lift up my throne, I will settle on the mount of the assembly, in the hidden parts of Tsaphon. I will climb on the top of the clouds, I will make myself equal to the Most High ». Instead, you were thrown into hell, into the depths of the abyss! (Is 14,12-15)
The Aramaic version of Isaiah translates and paraphrases: “How did you fall from above, you who were noble among the children of man, like the morning star among the stars? … I will rise above all peoples, I will become higher than all of them ». In the book of Sirach, concerning the high priest Simon, son of Onias, it is written that he was “like a morning star in the midst of the clouds” (Sir 50.6). From these passages, we can understand that the fallen star is nothing more than a bishop, who has lost his dignity and holiness and who tries to reach a power that is not his own, rising above the other bishops (stars) and for this reason he will be precipitated in Sheol, “on the edge of the pit of perdition”. It is no coincidence that the title “son of perdition” was used for Judas (Gv 17:12) the apostle (bishop) who betrayed the Master. The evangelists say that “Satan entered into Judas, called Iscariot” (Lc 22,3; Gv 13:27) and that this went out into darkness at night (Gv 13.30). The lawless, therefore, will come with the “strength of Satan”, since Satan is in him, and will come “with all power and signs and wonders of lies and with all seduction of injustice” and will be revealed, that is, will be unmasked ( by God). His lies will claim victims, attracting to himself all those who want to listen to the son of the “father of lies” – who will speak in him – and who will be seduced by his injustice and for this they will lose themselves, that is, they will join the destiny of the ” son of perdition ». In the moment in which the last antichrist is opposed and rises above all that is called God or is an object of worship, that is, he makes himself worshiped as if he were a deity, until he settles himself in the temple of God, showing himself as if were God, right there, in the unrealistic attempt to take the place of the one God, he will be precipitated and his body “thrown out of his tomb”, since he will have “destroyed his country, killed his people” (Is 14.19-20). He will drag with him those who follow him, subjugated by the power of deception that God allows for those who reject the truth.
In the “man of iniquity” and in what he represents, there is even a blasphemous intent, his self-exaltation is such as to want to “settle in the temple of God”, an action that is proper to the royal-divine enthronement and describes therefore an usurpation: this character looks like a god, but he is not because he appropriates the temple, a place that does not belong to him. His ridicule is even more subtle: the “man of iniquity” does not arouse spontaneous acclamation from those present; the picture of an announced excessive power turns into an embarrassing scene to say the least. The expression “showing himself as if he were God” (2,4) has the value of an unreal hypothesis or has a declarative value, in this case it would mean “showing himself (who): he is God”, that is, “I am God!”. In other words, he must resort to a self-proclamation, because his fictitious and inconclusive gestures do not convince anyone.
The Holy Scriptures would therefore seem to confirm what Fr. Malachi Martin said on the radio in response to Art Bell (WHO):
Art Bell: I want to quickly read a few more things, Father, an Australian friend of mine, who says: “A few years ago, in Perth, a Jesuit priest told me something more about the Third Secret of Fatima. He said, among other things, that the last pope would have been under the control of satan. Pope John fainted, thinking it might have been him. We were interrupted before I could hear the rest. ” Do you have any comments?
Malachi Martin: Yes. It appears that he was reading or had been revealed to him the text of the Third Secret.
