The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) announced that it will not enforce the Covid-19 inoculation mandate for students until the start of the 2022 school year, Fox News reported. This will prevent up to 34,000 students from being banned from attending their own schools, as the children were previously slated to be denied entry at the beginning of the Spring term.
Fox 11 Los Angeles reported Tuesday that Megan K. Reilly, the interim superintendent, told the board that the compliance rate among children is now over 87%. There is reportedly a total 630,000 students in the school’s system.
The decision to delay the mandate drastically changed the planned trajectory for many students, with the Los Angeles Times reporting that unjabbed students were set to be moved into an independent study program or would even possibly have to leave the system altogether.
The LAUSD’s reign has not been without controversy, including an event just a little bit earlier this month when the school caught fire following allegations that a student was given a Covid-19 inoculation without the consent of his parents.
“The lady that gave him the shot and signed the paper told my son, ‘Please don’t say anything. I don’t want to get in trouble,’” Maribel Duarte, the mother of a 13-year-old boy who underwent the medical procedure without consent, told NBC4. “It hurt to know he got a shot without my permission, without knowing and without signing any papers for him to get the shot.”
Many have argued that Los Angeles and the state of California broadly are undergoing a continuous decline, with the cost of living unaffordable, quality of life down, crime at all-time highs, and continued draconian policies that have spelled disaster for much of the state’s residents, especially those running small businesses. Some have estimated that the economic crash due at least in part to pandemic-related orders has destroyed approximately 7,500 small businesses along with additional 400,000 jobs lost in the city of Los Angeles alone.
